Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM)
Software category covering the full journey of a contract — authoring, negotiation, signing, storage, obligation management, and renewal.
Contract Lifecycle Management, usually shortened to CLM, is the software category for tools that cover the full journey of a contract: authoring, negotiation, approval routing, signing, storage, obligation tracking, and renewal. Enterprise CLM products like Ironclad, Icertis, and Agiloft compete here, typically priced per-seat and sold to legal ops and procurement teams.
CLM is often confused with e-signature. E-signature (DocuSign, Dropbox Sign, Adobe Sign) is the narrow act of collecting a legally binding signature. CLM is the broader discipline that *includes* signature as one step — alongside template libraries, redlining, approval workflows, clause libraries, and post-signature obligation management.
For smaller teams, full CLM is often overkill. The "contract tracking" subset — templates plus visibility plus renewal monitoring — is usually enough, and it's where Contrack focuses.
